Claude 4 is here

At its first developer conference, Anthropic launched Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, new AI models that excel in long-horizon reasoning, complex tasks, and coding. Opus 4, the more advanced of the two, is available to paying users, while Sonnet 4 is accessible to all users. Both models are available via Anthropic’s API on Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex AI.

Anthropic claims Opus 4 outperforms rivals like Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro and OpenAI’s o3 on coding benchmarks but lags behind o3 on some multimodal and academic evaluations. Both models are “hybrids,” capable of rapid responses and deeper reasoning, and can use tools like search engines and memory to improve task performance. Anthropic upgraded its Claude Code tool with IDE integration, an SDK, and GitHub support to support developers, enabling automated code reviews and fixes. Despite known AI limitations in code quality, Anthropic is betting on high demand and promises more frequent updates. Backed by major investments, Anthropic aims for $12 billion in revenue by 2027.

Vercel Launches AI model for web development

v0

Vercel has released “v0-1.0-md,” a new AI model designed specifically for front-end and full-stack web development. Available via API and currently in beta, the model supports both text and image prompts. Access requires a V0 Premium ($20/month) or Team plan ($30/user/month) with usage-based billing. The model can auto-correct common coding issues, supports OpenAI’s API format, and processes up to 128,000 tokens per request. It was tested on frameworks like Next.js. The launch aligns with growing AI adoption in programming, with 82% of developers reportedly using AI tools and some startups relying on AI for nearly all their code. Vercel joins JetBrains, Windsurf, and Mistral in the race to deliver specialized coding models, though challenges around code quality and security persist.
