Google’s Gemini will now auto-summarize emails

Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, will now automatically summarize long emails in Gmail without requiring user prompts. Summary cards will appear at the top of lengthy messages, highlighting key points and updating dynamically as new replies come in. This change builds on Gemini’s earlier email features, which required users to manually request a summary. Now, the assistant will take a more proactive role in managing inbox clutter. The feature is currently available only in English and is being rolled out gradually across regions. Users can still opt to manually trigger a summary or disable the automatic summaries entirely via Gmail settings. In compliance with regional privacy laws, the feature is off by default in the EU, U.K., Switzerland, and Japan.

Andreessen Horowitz leads $300M round in Abridge AI, valuing it at $5.3B

Abridge AI, a startup using AI to transcribe doctor-patient conversations, is raising $300 million in a new round led by Andreessen Horowitz, sources told Bloomberg. The deal values the Pittsburgh-based company at $5.3 billion, nearly doubling its $2.75 billion valuation from February. Khosla Ventures is also participating. Founded in 2018 by cardiologist Shiv Rao, Abridge aims to reduce inefficiencies in medical note-taking. Rao said the tool allows doctors to stay present during patient visits while AI handles documentation. Abridge has now raised over $400 million, with earlier backers including IVP, Elad Gil, Spark Capital, Bessemer, and USV.
