Google releases Gemini
Google has released the anticipated Gemini and consequently stopped using Bard. The new Gemini is available on the web and U.S. Android phones, with iPhones getting it in 2 weeks.
The Gemini app will replace Google's voice assistant on Android phones. For people already using Google Workspace, Gemini is dubbed Duet AI and will offer Help-me-write type features.

Google’s Gemini Report
Gemini is reportedly better than GPT-4 at summarizing news articles and generating computer code.
The more advanced version, Gemini Advanced, is available for $19.99 per month, similar to the cost of GPT-4.

Today’s News in AI
Apple, in collaboration with the University of California, Santa Barbara, unveiled the MGIE model, enabling plain language photo editing without software interaction. MGIE, standing for MLLM-Guided Image Editing, offers capabilities from cropping to complex object modification through text prompts. Demonstrated with examples like altering a pizza image to appear healthier, MGIE combines multimodal language models for intuitive editing. Available on GitHub and a Hugging Face Spaces web demo, MGIE represents Apple's foray into generative AI, competing with OpenAI's DALL-E 3 and Adobe's Firefly AI. This development aligns with Apple CEO Tim Cook's vision of enhancing AI features in Apple devices.
Walt Disney (DIS.N) unveiled "magic words," an AI-driven advertising tool for Disney+ and Hulu, enabling brands to tailor commercials to scene moods. Revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show, it allows precise audience targeting through scene metadata. Omnicom Media Group, among six firms in early beta testing, sees it as a game-changer for connecting with consumer emotions. Despite a 3% drop in Q1 2024 ad revenue to $3.35 billion, Disney+ attracted over 1,000 advertisers, with half its subscribers choosing ad-supported options, showcasing Disney's shift towards advanced streaming ad technology amidst declining traditional TV viewership.
