OpenAI launches Codex
OpenAI has a new coding announcement, the newest of several this week. The new release of a coding agent called Codex will allow users to perform software engineering tasks powered by Codex-1, which is built on the o3 reasoning mode. Codex can be connected to GitHub and preloaded with your repositories. The coding agent is meant to work similarly to other “vibe coding” tools such as Cursor.
Codex joins a growing suite of tools being layered into ChatGPT, including the web browsing agent Operator, the research assistant Deep Research, and the AI video generator Sora. It seems like OpenAI is shipping indefinitely to beef up as much market share before the cash runs out.

UAE to open one of the biggest data centers with the help of OpenAI

OpenAI is planning to help develop a massive 5-gigawatt data center campus in Abu Dhabi as part of its Stargate initiative, in what could become one of the largest AI infrastructure projects in the world. The facility, which may span 10 square miles and draw as much power as five nuclear reactors, would be shared between OpenAI and other firms, including UAE-based G42 and possibly MGX and unnamed US companies. While OpenAI’s participation isn’t finalized, a formal announcement is expected soon. The Stargate initiative, a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank announced in January, pledged up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure investments over four years. OpenAI’s first Stargate campus in the US is planned at 1.2 gigawatts, with up to 10 more sites to follow.
